Usually staged by a local community, festivals are one thing that makes a society what it is. A lot of these societies have become accepted due to their celebration of one or two festivals. I think how much patronized a particular community is based on what it has to offer to the people who come across it. Based on the reason for the celebration, a festival can be considered cultural, religious, or seasonal. Other types of festival include; film festival, music festival or art festival. Celebrated among the people of Ga, found in the nation’s capital Region, is the “Homowo” festival. It is celebrated to commemorate the period in history when there was a serious famine and the people went severely hungry. This festival is also known as hooting at hunger hence the name “Homowo’. The festival starts with the Dantu Priest celebrating his grand custom of feasting and making concoctions for the royal family. There’s also a twins day celebration where the twins cloth themselves in white calico and move around town. The brain behind this is to make people know that it’s a blessing to have twins. It’s believed those who watch this event and pray for twins eventually get it.
